# Ask a good question

> The more Tooli knows about your situation, the more useful the answer. With the 4 W's you ask a strong question in a few sentences.

Tooli doesn't know your site. The more you tell it about your situation, the better the answer matches what you need. You don't have to write a long text: a few sentences are enough.

## The 4 W's

Keep these four points in mind with your question. You don't have to use all of them, but every point you add makes the answer sharper.

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Who" icon="user">
    Who are you, or who is the answer for?

    *E.g. "I'm a joiner", "it's for a client with no construction knowledge".*
  </Card>

  <Card title="What" icon="circle-help">
    What exactly do you want to know or have done?

    *E.g. "which build-up do you recommend", "check my quote".*
  </Card>

  <Card title="Where" icon="hard-hat">
    What is the situation on site?

    *E.g. building type, year of construction, materials, existing condition.*
  </Card>

  <Card title="Which format" icon="list">
    How do you want to receive the answer?

    *E.g. "as a step-by-step list", "short", "as an email to my client".*
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## An example

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="Too general">
    > How do I insulate a flat roof?

    Tooli then gives you a general answer, which may not fit your roof.
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="With the 4 W's">
    > I'm a roofer **(who)**. I'm renovating a flat roof on a 1970s house, with a concrete roof slab and no insulation **(where)**. Which build-up do you recommend for a warm roof, and what should I watch for with the vapour barrier **(what)**? Give the answer as a step-by-step list **(which format)**.

    You now get an answer that fits your roof, in a form you can use straight away.
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

## Ask follow-up questions

Within the same chat, Tooli remembers what you asked earlier. You don't have to explain your situation again each time. Feel free to ask further:

* *"Can you summarise that more briefly?"*
* *"What if the roof has a timber structure?"*
* *"Write this out as an explanation for my client."*

<Tip>
  Starting a different topic? Start a [new chat](/en/using/start-a-new-chat). That keeps Tooli focused, and you can find your chats more easily later.
</Tip>

## Check important answers

<Warning>
  Tooli is an AI system and can make mistakes. Always have important decisions checked by a specialist.
